Whilst trying to navigate to a GPS position, the GPS Position icon is
greyed out and Im unable to select it.

Is there a minimum amount of satellites the TomTom should be picking up for
this option or am I doing something wrong?

TIA

The latter. GPS position is used purely to mark where you are at this
time so you can navigate back to it later, and thus only works in the add
favourite mode.

It is *not* used to say I want to enter a GPS position so I can go there
now.

Its a very poor choice of words by TT its no wonder there is a
misunderstanding. Mark Position or Note Location or similar would be
better.
