n35 GPS

I have for some time been looking for a PDA, but want one with built in GPS
facility. Is this unit the one to buy and is there any disadvantage to this
unit from a PDA point of view? I am wondering if this is the best route to
go with GPS/PDA or is it a compromise?

I would appreciate any comments regarding to this units ability as a PDA
and for GPS. Is this the way for me to go, or is this not the way?

I basically want a well featured PDA and GPS facility. Comments most
welcomed.

Thank you very much.

It seems there is no-one in here who knows anything about GPS, or PDAs
I tried asking a similar question a few weeks ago. Response - Zilch (0),
zero. none!

Perhaps you are you are asking the equivalent of how long is a piece
of string?

What do you want the GPS system to do?
What price do you want to pay?
Does it have to be waterproof for outdoor use?
What battery life do you want?
Is it going to be used for road navigation?
In which country do you want to use the system?

Take a look at the reviews and forums at
<http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/>
Be careful when using the rating scores on that site as recently a buggy
piece of software was given a very high rating :(

Post also to the newsgroup alt.satellite.gps which has a wider
International readership.

much depends on your budget. The Acer N35 as a PDA is pretty basic in some
areas, but as always it depends on your particular needs. For me it is
perfect as I didnt need WiFi or bluetooth and its megre 64meg RAM is ample
for my needs. As a GPS It performs pretty well using the supplied Destinator
3 software. It sometimes goes wrong (mainly at roundabouts) where voice
instruction is wrong but display gives right directions. I even managed to
add Gatso database to it via POI and now get voice warnings of speed & red
light cameras. I like the price, all in one unit and ease of use. Many of my
friends and family have now purchased one after seeing mine in action so it
must be pretty good. Incidently, Im a driving instructor so use the PDA
constantly as both a PDA for storing all my contacts details and as a GPS
for finding my way around.
