Hi Conor,

Ive just finished posting something very similar to this myself elsewhere
in this NG.

Im afraid there are even more problems than you have listed.

TTN5 as it stands, is useless to people with VGA devices. It has a memory
leak, and the only workaround is to hack the executable to make TTN5 non VGA
aware. A process which leaves TTN5 stable, but leaves the VGA device running
it in QVGA.

To get your 7 digit postcode working, you have to create an empty directory
called TOMTOM on the card you have your maps in. Bizarre, but it works.

What really cheeses me off, is that these Dutch crooks know about these
issues, but have not put them in the support FAQ.

Had my first fun route today - asked for shortest route from just past M25/6
junction to Croydon..... it routed off the M25, *through* Clackett services,
and back on again!

Well, Ive just done an 800+ mile navigation with it on my iPaq VGA screen
with no problems at all. Did you do a clean install? It works perfectly for
me.

Having said that, I dont like some of the new ways it works.

Well, it is a known issue which Tomtom have acknowledged, and promised to
fix in two or three weeks.

Which VGA device are you using?

What is the issue?

I posted here a few weeks ago actually :-)

Id just ordered the upgrade when my 4150 bit the dust and I was worried
about the upgrade not working on a new device. Anyway, everything worked
fine and I bought an HX4700 from PC World - the sort that will get an
upgrade to Widows Mobile 5. I did a clean install of TT 5 onto HX4700 and
immediately navigated my way on holiday.

Ive had no actual problems with the hardware and everything worked o.k.
(with the bit of advice about putting a tomtom folder on my SD card).

Software wise, one of the postcodes I put in didnt take me to where I
wanted to go to - which was strange and I find it really unhelpful that I
can no longer navigate from start to somewhere, theoretically as it is so
I can tell how long its going to take me. If that had been on the no
longer available features I really might not have upgraded.

There is a memory leak with TTN5 & VGA devices. Normally the PDA will freeze
up after 20 to 40 minutes, and will not exit the application properly.

Word is the bug fix (TTN 5.1) will be out on Friday.

I ahve no idea why you do not have the problem, as many other HP4700 users
do.

Regards

Martin

On 09/07/2005 16:05:56, in uk.rec.gps, JB licked his/her/their

You can navigate from start to destination. From the main menu go to
page 2 and use advanced planning. You can then choose from a series
of starting points, including points on the map and the same for the
destination.

Is this what you want?
