A colleague has asked me to sort out her TT One XL UK & Ireland which
has stopped working.

When I connect it to my XP laptop, Windows displays a box by the system
tray reporting it as a TT v4.

When I switch the TT on the screen displays the Application isnt
installed graphic.

Ive reset the TT following the instructions on TTs web-site to no
effect.

Ive installed TomToms HOME application and turned off the firewall but
the HOME software reports that it can find no TT device connected. I
have allowed the HOME software free access to the Net.

I posted a support request to TomTom on Friday morning but have received
no response.

Can anyone suggest how I get this sorted please?

If I cant get HOME to recognise the device I dont see how Im going to
be able to reinstall the software, (I assume HOME will do that
automatically?).

Yup. When I plug the TT in using the USB cable supplied, XP reports it
as a Tom Tom v4 having been connected.

Having searched the archives of this newgroup on Google Groups and seen
reports of HOME being stymied by software firewalls I also turned off
the Bullguard firewall thats installed to no avail.

Im not sure if this is entirely relevant to your situation, but in order to
use HOME, I had to completely uninstall my firewall. (Kerio). Merely
disabling it didnt work.

WRT TT support, dont hold your breath. They took five days to reply to my
support request on this, and had completely misunderstood my query. They
basically agreed that I needed to disable the firewall to use HOME,
despite the information I had given them that this didnt work!

Does it appear as a mounted drive?

It does, but when I click to view the contents in Windows Explorer a box
appears telling me its not formatted and suggesting I let Windows
format it. Ive not answered yes to that.

Ive now tried it having not just turned off but disabled the Bullguard
firewall and rebooted. HOME still cant see it.

And that was all they offered??? OMG!!!

I have had a response from TT support - telling me how to reset the ONE
& remove the Hardware Devices entry and providing a little program to
remove the TT Registry entries before reinstalling HOME.

Having done all that and disabled my firewall it still doesnt work. :(

I await TTs next suggestion with patient anticipation.

Im afraid I didnt have your patience :-)

Note that I had to completely *uninstall* my Firewall using add/remove
programs in order to use HOME.

I downloaded and installed the free camera DB, then uninstalled HOME, vowing
to never use the POS again.

Please let us know how forthcoming or otherwise TT are.
