Ive just received an eTrex H as an upgrade replacement for a standard
eTrex.

I expect a new GPS device to be a bit slow initially at fixing satellites,
but after an hour of trying, in clear sky conditions, it will not get a fix.

I have tried altering some of the settings as it thinks it is somewhere in
the USA on 15th Aug 2007, to no avail. I am situated at 51*N 03*W.

Have I bought a defective device or is the eTrex H half baked and unfit for
purpose?

Ive just fixed it, seemingly by going into demo and setting advanced sky
view mode, when it immediately acquired 10 satellites.

It now gets a fix within seconds [the old 1st generation eTrex takes a
minute] and it will even get a fix within my 1st floor bedroom.

It is clearly a much better GPS, which is just as well as I shall be needing
it next week in La Gomera, where there can be lots of tree cover.

Some of these new gadgets can be a bit of a pain to set up initially but
its great that its OK now.
Sounds like a superb piece of kit!
