I have a pocket pc, gpsdash and a gps receiver.

I have completed a trip that I was logging with gpsdash to a .nmea file.

Now I would like to see my route projected on to a map. What would be the
best package to install for this purpose?

It depends on the exact format of your file but you shoudl be able to
use he execllent tools at GPSVisaulizer to generate a Google Earth
comaptibel file, see:

Thanks for that tip. The file saved by GPSDash was usable by gpsvisualizer
although they couldnt show an image at that scale (my trip was too short)
and it wasnt worht looking at after zooming out far enough for it to match
the available imagery.

Not sure what format Magellans .wpt files are in but GPSVisualizer can
handle many formats:

And if that form doesnt work, GPS Visualizer also hosts an on-line
gateway to GPSBabel:

thanks to the both of you for your replies. both links work but im
disappointed in the resolution of the google map.
waypoints and tracks are visible but when zooming in to a level that
displays the extent of the 40 acre parcel the google image is blurry and
pretty useless. i can get a better view of the property in question from
virtual earth. most of the usgs sat. images are better as well however they
are older and dont show the improvements to the property and the timber
trails so the image must be before 2003. however it is satisfying to know it
can be done. now i need better images.

The resolution varies a lot from region to region, not a lot we can do
about that. To get better resolution youd need to buy in mor detailed
satellite or more acurately aerial photography for your area (the
higher resolution mapping is not satellite photography).
