Hi,

I have recently signed up to the speed camera site at pocketgpsworld ( not
paying ) but i was wondering how i get a discount on the easydevices.co.uk
site?
I was looking at getting a 520 or a 720 tomtom. I was wondering how much i
would save?

I also submitted a fair few speed cameras in Belguim but not heard anything
back yet but i suppose its early days.

Oh, does anyone know how the new tt520 / 720 are powered?, is it via the
same lead as the tomtom 700 uses in the docking mount in the car?, it would
be handy if so.

Many thanks

Ill answer those that I can! For UK Speed Cameras you have to be a
subscriber to qualify for lifetime membership when submitting cameras,
for our European, Australia, South Africa and US roll-out you do not,
as soon as we have verified the camera, either physically or by another
independent report then you will (if the first reporter) receive
memebership.

The Easydevices discount is impossible to quantify as the discounts
vary day to day. As firm pricing for the x20s has not been announced
a guess at discount would be worthless. The discount codes are also
only available to subscribers but Ł2 for one month would get you access
and the opportunity to enter our monthly competition.

The x20s are powered using a USB - 12v Power, cable, this is not the
same as that 700 charger.

From the heading I thought you might be asking about discounts on speeding
fines ;)

Hi Darren,

Thank you for your reply,

I hope you get at least one of my international speed cameras verified soon
and i am first to report, to be honest i did think you might have them
already as you have 1000s of members.

I have been looking around and most websites, like pcworld currys etc seem
to be having a prebook price of Ł329 for the TT720, seeing as I paid Ł450
including docking fitting in december 2005 this seems a snip at price
already, but any discount on top would be handy.

Its a bit dishearting to hear that the new GOs will not be sharing the same
power fitting as other GOs. I do love having my current unit on a permenant
power supply. I did think the actual docking station / window mount would
be different but did hope the actual power lead would have fit it. I
realise ONEs have a USB lead but as the GOs are a differnent models i was
hoping it to be the same!
Do you know if the TT720 comes with an in car charger for the cig lighter?
I think when Halfords fitted my TT700 they used the ciglighter cable and
wired it to the battery. Do you think this would still be possible with
these new models? One thing i worry about is if they only have a 5 hour
time life on the battery, this isnt very much for a heavy user of the unit.

Just one last question if i may, as i notice from this newsgroup you are a
very knowledgable person, ... Is there a TT920 in the pipeline that could
be superseeding the TT720 in a few weeks ?( just after we have all gone out
and bought one )

Cheers

We have only recently launched our European database so it will take
time to build a userbase on the continent.

USB is becoming a semi-standard now, of course they will come with a
12v cigarette adapter/charger. And this can in the same way be
permanently fitted although I am duty bound to point out that the GOs
require 5v and the conversion from 12v takes place in the cigarette
charger plug. This should NEVER be removed. If you want to
permanenetly wire you should install a hidden cigarette lighter socket
under the dash and plug the charger into this.

TomTom deny a 920 is in the pipeline, some of us find this hard to
believe but this is a hunch, I have not heard or seen any evidence to
siuggest there is one.

Hi Darren,

Thanks for clearing that up and makes me feel a little better.

Just a quick question, would my current model the TomTom GO 700 also require
5v?
Like I mentioned, it was fitted in Halfords so im wondering if they may have
already taken care of the 12v to 5v thing, thus meaning that if i get them
to do it again it shouldnt be a major problem, and likewise for all other GO
fans.

Once that is sorted out, the only thing left to worry about is the actual
mount fitting to the windscreen!, no doubt its not a nice long arm as
before but more of a ONE fitment?

Regards

It does

If its still working then they wired it correctly! Although if they
have simply connected a hidden cigarette lighter socket behind trhe
dash, all you need to di is disconnect the 700 lead and connect the new
lead.

Its very similar to the ONE MkII Mount. See:

Hi Darren,

Thanks for your help, i have contacted Halfords who say that my current
model was connected via a hidden cig lighter socket, and no wires were
actually cut.
So it would appear they wired it correctly and taken care of the 12v to 5v
thing.

So it looks like i should (or could) be able to just unplug the current
connector and insert the new one and hey presto!

Just for info, Halfords say they now charge Ł39.99 to do this fitting now.
fingers crossed it looks like i might get away with it!

I best get my order in now....

Many Thanks
