My 510 arrived this morning. Plugged it in and all seemed well. I then
installed Tom-Tom home and tried to do a backup. Both the PC and the Tom-Tom
locked up. I rebooted the PC and tried again with the same result. The third
time the same happened but this time the Tom-Tom screed locked and it will
not turn on or off. The screen is blank but illuminated. So is it knackered
or do I wait for the battery to run down? I cannot see any way of doing a
reset.

Hold it under a light, and youll see the hole. I occasionally have to
reset mine - it did wonders for me when my new TomTom wasnt saying
connect to computer? when it should have been

Also, rather than just unplugging from the USB device, I use the safely
remove device option down in the System Tray beforehand

Good luck & HTH

Thanks Mike. I have had no luck with that so I am going to return it. Noted
about the USB.

Did you locate the reset butting and did you hold it in for a second or
more? I recommend using a very small size non-plastic coated paper clip.

Youre welcome

Sorry I should have said what Tony said about holding in with a safety
pin for over a second. Next time you start up your tom tom, it plays
like a small fanfare and displays a large TT logo

Thanks for that Mike. I had guessed that but I appreciate you clarifying
matters anyway.

P.S. It now locks up every time the USB connection is fitted so as far as I
am concerned it is either faulty or not fit for purpose. I tried it on two
machines so I think the fault is with the unit. A pity really because it
seems a very good unit but I cant live with it if I cant update it.
