When I set the clock time manually it shows totally different time on the
navigation screen. If I switch the unit off for a short period of time it
then loses a portion of time (the set time) related to the time the unit has
been off.

I just set the time and turned it off for about 20mins and it lost 10mins!
The longer it off the more time it loses.
If I use sync time when the unit is satellite locked it still displays
incorrectly on the navigation screen.

Anyone have any answers/remedies? Ive read quite a few posts on the
internet but none mention any way of resolving this problem other than a
reset which for many does not cure. My 510 suffered this problem straight
out of the box :(

Welcome to the world of TomTom!

My 910 has always done it. Have you done the latest update? It seems to be a
lot better after that, not 100% though but better.
HTH.

Yes Ive done that. Just switched it on this morning (09:36) and it was a
whopping 6 hrs out!!! after setting around 8:45 last night. The nav screen
said 05:09 That does not look any better. :-(

I cannot understand why it doesnt use the sync time to set its own clock,
and either use the position to work out your time zone, or allow the user to
set the time zone.

Welcome to the world of TomTom!
Mine isnt great, but it seemed a little better. See how it goes.
Im really not impressed with TT, for 500 sovs Id have expected a better
clock! I mean, I ca go Argos and get a watch for a fiver that works
properly!

Nor do I.
Garmin units use the sat time synch, which is how the whole shebang works
and is bloody accurate! Never set my Gamin SP3 clock once. just adjusted
the time offset for my area.
Tomtom should do the same.
Piece of old junk!

On the Garmin units I have owned you cant set the time manually.
Theres no need to anyway, since as you say the time and date is always
set whenever the unit locks onto the satellites.

Zactly.
All you need to do twice a year is set the offset of +/- 1 hour for BST.
You have the most accurate clock/calendar around. IIRC its as accurate if
not more so than the Rugby clock!
