Just got a brand spanking new model this week, charged OK, so connector
is OK, but I cant get the computer to see it via USB

I inserted the software CD that came in the box
the program said there was a newer version, so I let it install that
docked the TomTom onto the USB devices
plugged in the charger to the mains like it says
green light came on on the front of the unit, so some of the internal
contacts are obviously making a connection
but when I switch on the unit, TomTom Home keeps telling me to switch on
the device. Neither computer pings like it normally does when you plug
in a USB device, or even asks for the drivers when you use a new sort of
device for the first time (like when I used a USB stick for the first
time on my XP machine)

I have tried this on both a WinME and a WinXP system, where I have
connected USB Sticks and Large External Hard drives no problem. Has
anyone else had this?

Also, I dont know if its related, but the pins on the inside of the
unit dont look perfectly straight to me - is this normal. Ive not
tried connecting anything else such as the microphone etc via the
sucker/windscreen connector

I am just going to take it back to the shop where I got it from this
afternoon. I suspect they will try a new cable first though, before
offering to swap the whole box

Thanks in advance

Yes, I am very pleased with it.

recalculate!

Yes, although my brand new (last week) out the box 510 thought I was
going through a field, when I was in fact on a road that has been open
for well over a year

Also the postcodes a bit quirky, like Tom Tom insisting on a even number
range higher than the odd number that is correct (as per the Royal Mail
website)
